When I first moved to Chicago in 2009, I started to work on small format paintings influenced by the things I was discovering around this new place. Works like My IL and False Guru represent some of the things I started to adopt into my understanding of Chicago culture.
Stripes and lines and a certain degree of abstraction are a recurrent element in my painting. In this series I began to leave the human figure to the side in order to concentrate completely on color and texture. I began to appreciate the complexities of abstraction in Chicago.
